Hi - I am new to the thread and I am taking on a new remodelling project where I wish to redo the bottom six steps, changing it from a "closed stringer" to an "open stringer" also replacing existing ballusters and extending them down to the stairs themselves. Are there any structural issues with "cutting" the top exposed part of stringer to make it "open"? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. -thanks Glenn
