  1. I bought a 1950's 3 bed ex council semi 2 years ago which was in poor condition. I have made it liveable , I have been living in it for 6 months, but there is still some to do.

the roof is marley tile and some of the roofing felt is damaged/torn/missing (probably done by previous tenant) but seems to be beyond its sell by date. the battens seem ok, and there are no leaks unless heavy rain is accompanied by strong wind. and then not serious.

I am considering repairing by applying felt from the inside underneath the battens supported by chipboard cut to fit between the timbers, or to spray with foam.

the facia's, sophitts (asbestos) gutters and downpipes also require replacing.

the attic has been boarded and used for storage. so may follow the repair with insulation.

any advice would be appreciated, I may do myself or get someone in dependant on price, time etc.

  2. thanks rich for the welcome.

started my working life as joiner, then after apprenticeship did more or less anything else ! car mechanic, ambulance driver, plus many supervisory and managerial roles, then back to building as a supervisor/instructor, and then building maintenance engineer.

I sort of retired early and bought a house 2 years ago when my relationship broke up and am currently renovating it as i live in it. the previous tenant was a drug addict and alcoholic, he and his mates had wrecked the house, removing whatever they could sell to feed their habit, the estate agent wouldnt go upstairs as it was so unsafe, so you can imagine. anyway i live upstairs and most of the work is done, there are 2 rooms downstairs to complete, and some 'finishing off' eleswhere.

i have spent much time on the garden, and after making the house 'safe' slowed to a part time pace- then spent a lot of time indulging my hobbies after spending some years 'on call'

my purpose of coming to the forum is to swop views and news with like minded people.
