  1. Besides asking for a pat on the back, what is your question? You must have a very big studio enabling you to paint pitchers 108m wide, that
  2. Architrave corner blocks The idea behind the Architrave corner block is that it offers an alternative to mitring architraves around doors and windows etc. As a general rule they are 10mm wider than the architrave or trim they are accompanying, so if you are using a 70mm architrave then you will need a 80mm corner block.
  3. Hook / split battens A method used to give concealed fixing in the like of cabinets and wall panelling. They are known by various names including Hook / split battens and French cleat. I have always known this type of fixing as a hook or split batten but it as been bought to my attention that’s it’s also called a French cleat.
  4. If you like playing at interior designer then check this site out painting with out getting out the paint brush.
  5. I to use grounds to help support or fix skirting etc to but I never call them battens as they are grounds. See item on built up skirtings This is my other website that I earn my daily crust from.
  6. In Carpentry what is the difference between a batten and a bearer? Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Would this be a good description? Bearer;- a term used for a batten in first fix carpentry or roofing which is normally concealed i.e. sawn timber not planed or machined timber. Batten;- a term used for a bearer in 2nd fix carpentry that is concealed or visible and usually planned or machined timber. In the enclosed drawing I have described the timber supporting the plywood as bearers is this correct? Semi Concealed Trapdoor.pdf
  7. Where can i get a Lead Paint Test Kit. Thanks.
  8. The Sagulator helps you design shelves by calculating shelf sag (deflection) given type of shelf material, shelf load, load distribution, dimensions, and method of attachment. You can also specify an edging strip to further stiffen the shelf.
  9. Hi Team This site may be of interest
  10. Hi Team I am as old as a young conker tree and been in the building trade man and boy. I am a time served apprentice in the days when it was an apprenticeship five long years learning my trade and that is bespoke cabinet maker. You can find out more about me and the type of things I design and make from my workshop on the door step of our second city by visiting my website. I am also developing a second website and this will a site that visitors can down load How-2-Guides these will be produced in conduction with this DIY forum and other DIY forums. It will not be a forum never in the reign of pigs pudding will I run a forum. All I want to do is offer the DIYer good advice in the form of well presented guides. And the only way I feel you can do this is by joining forum like this and other forums to see what questions are being asked and what help I can give and at that the same time see if there is a need for a guide to be produced. I have already asked admin if they would like to contribute to the guides and I only help they do. This looks and reads a little or a lot like spam but it is not I am just trying to introduce my self by telling you all what I am about but I will understand if any of the moderators feel they should edit or even delete this thread completely.
