ToxicJR
Hi guysI have a soundproof room down the garden I use to record and practice music with bands for work. BUT, in the winter, it is so damn cold, the temperature changes in the room is doing the gear no good at all! Obviously sticking in central heating and floor heating will be damn expensive for a room at the bottom of the garden. Would the only option be to get a nice thick carpet and stick foam padding up on the walls? cheers
CDS
It is going to depend on the construction of the "room" but your first step will be to add as much insulation as is possible. This will reduce the heatloss from the room. You then need to add a heat source. What you use will depend on lots of factors such as how often the room is used and for how long, how important it is to protect the room contents when not in use.The simplest (assuming you have electrical power in the room) is a suitable sized electrical panel heater run from a thermostat. The stat can be set to maintain a low temperature when the room is not being used and can be turned up when it is being used.Other options could include a wood burner or a portable gas heater (although these can result in condensation problems). It is vital all the gear is kept a constant tempterature. There is electrical power. The plan is a radiator with thermostat and a dehumidifier. Some Cork flooring and then a thick carpet. and some studio foam around the bottom half of the walls!
