geek84 Posted October 23, 2024 Report Posted October 23, 2024 Hi Folks My neighbour has put up a small fence around his front lawn. Nobody in the street has done that, and the neighbour's property seems to stick out from the rest of the properties in the street. Are there any rules as to whether you can put up a fence around your front lawn, or any height restrictions? Where could I get more info regarding this? Thanks in advance for your responses. 1
Rich Posted June 9 Report Posted June 9 Hiya Geek Do you have a picture of it? Typically, if they own the home, then within reason, they can put up a fence around their boundary, no problem. Is it a decorative fence or is it a 6ft high sold wall type thing? One place you can check is with your local council. They are the ones who set planning rules and who need to be asked for permission to put up any solid structures. You'll also be able to find all the planning permission requests on their website directly, and see if they have been approved or declined, appealed and revised etc. Would be interested to see a pic of this fence...
geek84 Posted June 13 Author Report Posted June 13 (edited) Hi Rich Thanks for your reply. Below is the picture. It's an open plan estate and fences aren't really allowed. Thanks Edited 3 hours ago by Rich Rotated Picture - Upright 1
Rich Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago When you say "estate", are we talking about housing estate or "Countryside estate"? Do you have it in writing anywhere at all, that fences are not allowed? If so, from whom? This simply looks like a decorative driveway fence... So the next step here is to find out exactly if it is allowed or not, and on how's rules/terms is it breaking? If it's just a "Generally speaking, we don't do fences", then that's not going to apply at all.
