Hiya Tony Blimey, thats interesting, do you by chance have the facility to scan the ad and show us it here? Its not really the sort of publication that many D.I.Y folk would come across, but would love to see it :-)

Trust a Trader/ My Builder. etc etc......
Rich replied to CBM's topic in DIY Nightmares & Cowboy Builders
It wasnt a dressing down at all, just pointing out the obvious... All people ever need to do is pay in milestone payments, for any job, and both sides are happy then. None of this huge payments up-front, then dont see the builder for months nonsense, and the builder doesnt have to risk waiting till job finished to risk not get any money.. Have it all written down and signed by both parties what the job is, and what milestones release payments... If EVERY trader worked like that, things would go so much smoother, and hiccups would not escalate into major problems. Its not difficult to do, but so many are just too damn lazy and go only on what was said. -
Great to have you John and look forward to hearing more from ya

Hey Karl Can you confirm that you are using RAWPLUGS when trying to put screws into your wall? Is there any patterns to the soft parts, such as straight lines up/down left/right?

This depends on the complexity of what is being done, but £600 per 1000 is a ton of cash, as a good brickie can lay 1000 bricks-a-day in the right conditions, like building a straight wall, but if its something complex with lots of cutting and turns, then it could drop down to 1/5th of that, @ 200 a day, so his day rate could become his weekly pay... For the brick layer, I'd say the best bet is the day rate, but that would suit the employer, as they would prefer a per-job rate, so it all boils down to what the job is, and how good the brick layer is, and his negotiation skills.

Whay your obviously missing here is the fact that this would break the law in so many ways, for a start, its illegal to distribute/publish your customers details, anywhere, for any reason, secondly, you would be hit with so many libel cases, so fast, you wouldnt know what happened, and more, but to not even know that and suggest such an idea, tells me you might want to look into the legalities of how to run a business... A good tradesman would never think of or need an idea like this, so where are you going wrong? You dont help a friend just to get appreciated, you do it because you want to, and if they dont show appreciation immediately, then it could be due to the very reason your helping them in the first place, they may stress or worry about other things, and were all human, we forget things that are going on right in front of us sometimes.... If somebody helps other people ONLY for the appreciation, then it sounds like that person may be too self centred, worrying more about what others think of them too much... -
Lightening a dark wood stained curtain pole
Rich replied to bramhambabe's topic in Carpentry & Woodwork
Hey Are you positive its just darkwood "stain" and not just darkwood? If its stain, then a LOT of sanding might be required. For a curtain pole, surely its cheaper and quicker to just buy a new one? -
